Be Glam. Liv-Glam.

The heat is definitely on as we enter into the final week before the first official day of summer. I am so excited, even though for Florida that means sweltering heat and hurricanes. But, when you’ve got a cloudless blue sky, crystal clear water and some sort of tropical drink in hand, who cares, right?

This new release Edulica dress by Samantha Jones (Liv-Glam) leaves me with that tropical getaway impression that has me looking forward to summer all year long! I was able to pair it up with this beautiful floral headpiece by AlaFolie that I picked up at last years vintage fair and have not so patiently been biding my time for the perfect opportunity to show it off. Also new this week are these Lydia Slingback heels from Ingenue for the June round of Collabor88. I love that so many creators are getting on board and coming out with mesh addons to the SLink feet, which are by far my most favorite feet in all of SL. ♥

Oh, and in case you haven’t heard, the Collabor88 event is under new management starting this month and with it come a lot of great new ideas, as well as a new blog! Make sure you check it out, as well as the great catalog of items updated each month.

Fashionably [Dead] Sensitive

I had a lot of fun styling these overalls by Fashionably Dead for Collabor88, that I wanted to splurge a little and go back to my roots of collage-making in photoshop. So, I used a Lady Gaga song I happened to be listening to at the time and whipped up something funky to go with my mood. You really can’t beat all of the new releases out and between Collabor88 and the Arcade, which is still going strong at already two weeks in, you’re sure to find some great accessories to show off to all of those paparazzi out there!

Blast From the Past Meme

I was wowed by the response to my collage style meme that I posed a few weeks ago, so I thought I would use this month’s theme of Collabor88 to come up with another fun collage that we can have fun putting together: 90s favorites!

Growing up in the 90s introduced me to a whole world of goodies that, while back then might have seemed cool at the time, are by todays standards completely dorky and yet strangely comforting. Now, whenever I remember fondly such things as Tamagotchi’s and Mood Rings, I can’t help but laugh and wonder- what was I thinking? It’s hard even to believe that the end of the 90s were almost 15 years ago when sometimes, it seems like just yesterday. Yet I know that when I look back and think of that decade, I can honestly say that it was easily my favorite. Of course as a kid, I was biased.

Meme Instructions: Reminisce with your favorite 90s trends and icons. Create a list with fond memories or create a collage showcasing what you loved most about this unforgettable decade!

Jelly Shoes – I swear, at one point every girl in school had a pair. They were the ultimate universal shoe at the time! Wear them with skirts, pants, shorts, socks- you name it! They were the perfect slips on, before flip flips ever became popular!

Mood Rings – Passing around a singular ring just to see whose mood was what was always a great way to pass the time. We’d even keep a little chart in the back of our notebooks just so we could go back and figure out why it suddenly changes from green to brown when you were caught looking at the class cutie.

Butterfly Clips – A hair staple. I remember asking my mom every morning to roll my hair into those little ponytails with my butterfly clips in the front. Not only was it all the rage but at the time with every color of the rainbow and then some, we just had to wear them all at once. It was a rule.

Tattoo Chokers – Who didn’t have one of these at some point growing up? Mostly, they came from the coin machines at the supermarket (real world gachas!) and we’d sit around during the summer, collecting and trading so we could wear them to school the next year as necklace, bracelets and even belly bands.

Trapper Keepers – Remember back when binders first came around in school and they were this big, fancy ordeal? Trapper Keepers made notebooks a thing of the past and they were easily the best part of shopping for new school supplies. Every kid had a trapper keeper and all of the coolest kids had Lisa Frank ones!

Nintendo 64 – If you had siblings, you were bound to fight over whose turn it was on the first game system we really remember (Atari what?) Super Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong and Street Fighter were the first three games we had- remember when you had to blow the cartridge to get it to work?

Giga Pets/ Tomagotchi’s – Gosh, the fun we had with these! I remember everyone in school having one and you were a total loser if you didn’t. After much begging and maybe even a little whining, my parents dropped the $30 (times three of us) on a grey and white one (the only colors left by the time they agreed.) I remember waking up at all hours of the night and even during school to make sure my little guy was fed and clean- until they banned them from our elementary school and that was the end of that.

Gel Pens – Gel pens didn’t really become a trend until I was in 8th grade (and before that it was Scented Markers.) I recall many a colorful time when a bunch of us would deem it socially acceptable sit in the back of our Social Studies class and doodle on ourselves. Of course by the time we reached high school, they were a thing of the past and erasable pens became the newest hit.

Beanie Babies – Who didn’t have at least 20 of these collectible favorites? I had an entire bookshelf of my furry friends that kept me company through my single digit years- until the great yard sale eventually gave them all new homes for a cheap price.

Paper Fortune Tellers – I don’t really remember why, but between MASH and Paper Fortune Tellers, these things were the biggest thing to grace the playground during recess. In fact, I still remember how to make them to this day, though I am sure we can all come up with better things than, ‘You’re going to marry so and so.’ Hehe.

Pogs – I don’t even think any of us ever really knew how to play them. But the designs were cool, the slammers just the thing and they were the cheapest collectibles around. Too bad they didn’t last as long as Pokemon Cards!

Warheads & Crybabies – Who doesn’t remember these sour candies that could bring tears to your eyes and make you the class clown at the same time? I swear, just thinking about it makes my taste buds cringe- And yes, the blue raspberry was by far the worst of them all! Did I remember reading somewhere that consuming more than three at a time could potentially damage something? Eh, I wouldn’t doubt it.

Chat Rooms/AOL – Yes, back when Dial Up threatened to wake up everyone in the house because it was just that loud. Back before MySpace and Facebook and Blogs became all the rage, AOL chat rooms and pimping your profile was the place to be. Remember when your mom picked up the house phone and you got kicked off the internet? Those were the days.

Titanic – I must have been 11 years old when this movie came out and my huge crush on Leonardo DiCaprio was what dragged my two best friends and I to the theater thirteen times just so we could cry every time he sank to the bottom of the Atlantic. And yes, we really did cry.

Nickelodeon – Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Rugrats, All That, Figure It Out, Alex Mack, Hey Arnold, Wild & Crazy Kids, Global GUTS, Kenan & Kel, , Eureka’s Castle, Clarissa Explains it All- We’re talking Vintage Nickelodeon here, the list goes on! All of the best shows on one channel- you couldn’t get better than that!

NSYNC/Boy Bands – Yes, back when we all drew ‘Mrs. Justin Timberlake’ in little hearts all over our notebooks, or swore up and down that Nick Carter would be our date to the 8th grade dance. I remember a group of us skipping school for two days because there was an NSync concert at Disney World and my mom took us all to camp out in the pouring rain just so we could get front row seats. Those paper wrist bands were the hot topic of conversation that entire week at school. Of course, don’t forget the Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears, either. If you were any sort of 90s kid, you knew at least one of their songs!

The Macarena – You *had* to know the Macarena because you were doing it at every school dance and family reunion, whether you knew it or not!

Oregon Trail – Only the best part of the school day! It was officially the first computer game I ever played- I used to remember using the names of my friends in our wagon trip and wondering what dysentery meant at the time. Epic.

Sitcoms – Because television shows like Full House and Boy Meets World were all the rage and you could rap the theme song to Fresh Prince of Bel Air without blinking an eye.

Heads Up 7 Up – Fridays in school were the best! Countdown to the weekend, no homework and end of the day games like Heads Up 7 Up were the best! Of course, you were only the champion if you memorized everyone’s shoes…

Street Smart

Today was a super busy day for me, so I only had a few minutes to throw something together and I love the way this new mini skirt and midriff-baring  jacket from Liv-Glam is so easy to wear. It comes in four mix and match color options and I was able to pair it glamorously with a pair of boots and this new hair from Truth, one of four new releases this week from Truth Hawks.

BOOM @ The Arcade

Hard to believe a week has gone by already for the June round of the Arcade! I just can’t get enough of the craziness of gachas- I have to have them all, including these cute friendship bracelets from BOOM. I so remember these from grade school and the simple string replicas bring back such fun memories of all of the girls vying to get as many on their wrists as they could fit. Oh, those were the days!

Also new this week at faMESHed are these wedge slingback sandals by Eboni Kahn of Hucci. She is really rocking the new releases lately and with my SLink hands and feet being permanently attached to my avatar, I love all of the addons that have been popping up all over the grid! These sandals come in eight mix and match color options and the regular version with cork heels come in ten striped colors.

There is a new event premiering this month called The Kollective. It features an inspirational collaboration between designers and bloggers that will offer fashionistas some fabulous new releases at great prices. The first round begins on June 22, so check out the flickr group for sneak peeks of all the latest releases and for who’s participating in this great event!

Romantic Rendezvous

I still can’t get over how much I love the new Ellie skin from Belleza, for the Arcade. Yes, I know I’ve said it in almost every post for the past week, but I can’t help it! The freckles are just too cute! Anyway, I wanted to do something soft and pretty to go with the look and feel of Ellie, so I am wearing this great new release from Gizza. It is a partial mesh bodysuit with a floral, ruffly peplum belt and an pretty floral headpiece. It comes in three colors, green (shown above,) peach and purple. To grab this great new release, check out the mesh collection at the Gizza mainstore here.

I’ve finally decided to open my sim up to visitors for the month of June, so feel free to stop by and hang out or snap some pictures. Join my Flickr group or post your link here to share them! ♥

Summer Lovin’ @ The Arcade

If you ask Dwight what my favorite type of swimsuit is, he would tell you with a wicked gleam that it would have anything to do with ruffles! So, it goes without saying that this new bikini from Paper Doll for the Arcade was a must have for my wardrobe!

I’ve been wanting to do another retro inspired look for sometime now, ever since I saw this new Sadie hair by Truth and with Ingenue being a leader in vintage inspired looks, I knew that these new Delphine heels would be a perfect back for my ruffle-kini. That the new Shakeup ring also matched these shoes was fate!

I still can’t get over how awesome the new Ellie skin is by Tricky from Belleza. I am in love! I’ve managed to take off the #1 in exchange for the #3 (and all the rest!) and the sexy red lips and luscious Monroe beauty mark that really pulled my vintage look together. I really hope Tricky expands on this new release after the Arcade closes, because I would love to own the full line! ♥

Eboni Kahn of Hucci has these cute roadsters out for the Arcade and I swear, you can’t get a better bargain than at 50L per play. There are four RARES to collect and 15 total to win and every one is well worth the gamble!

Finally, in case you haven’t heard, I am so sad to report that Katey Coppola of Glitterati is closing the doors after five amazing years of creating poses and props in Second Life. Though she is by no means leaving the grid she will be, for the most part, retiring from creating and so everything in her mainstore is on a major markdown until the end of June. For more information on her decision, check out her flickr page (with letter) here.

Native American @ The Arcade

No better way is there to spend the summer than by playing games with friends on a sea-side dock with the scent of popcorn and the sound of music filling the air. The Arcade is really heating up in its first week open for the June Edition! The sim has been full nonstop, but don’t let that deter you from entering. The list of gachas and prizes to be won are well worth the wait!

You can definitely tell it is the summer season from the heat, the excited frivolity and the awesome Aztec and Native American inspired pieces from Tee*fy and Emery. I  love the bold colors and patterns from the High-Low dress (Tee*fy) and the Cropped Top and Shorts (Emery) and they are a perfect match to some of the other great pieces also available at the Arcade.

After you’re done playing the games, don’t forget about some of the other great opportunities awaiting you around the pier, provided to us by some of our favorite SL designers! Souvenier props including mugs, plates, balloons, lanyards and t-shirts (provided by Allegory Malaprop) are available on a cart near the entrance. There is also the famous carousel and pinball machines we’ve all come to love (from Suetabulous Yootz and Anya Ohmai,) a fortune teller & skeeball machine (by Katharine McGinnis,) and even a claw machine with adorable octopus and fish toys (by Azure Electricteeth & Maylee Oh.)

For this picture, I am at the Tableau sim, home of Clawtooth, Nylon Outfitters, Intrigue Co. and other fantastic designers (many of who are at The Arcade!) It provided the perfect backdrop for these two outfits, as well as to show off the new suitcase pose props I grabbed by Click.
